Become a Certified Public Bookkeeper
The Certified Public Bookkeeper (CPB) license enables you to place "CPB" behind your name and communicate your bookkeeping knowledge, skill, experience, and ethics to employers or clients. The license distinguishes you from your competition, builds credibility, validates knowledge, demonstrates skill, verifies experience, and confirms professional ethics.
Requirements
Bookkeepers obtain the license by completing the required Certified Public Bookkeeper license courses, certifications, and experience, and agreeing to abide by the CPB Professional Code of Conduct.
Each course may be substituted by an approved equivalent accredited course. Upon approval, the course is waived but you must pass the exam.
Accreditation
The Certified Public Bookkeeper (CPB) license is accredited by Accounting Analytics Accounting School. The school is a registered Postsecondary Proprietary School providing post-secondary education for educational, vocational, or professional objectives.

Accounting Fundamentals
This course explains bookkeeping and accounting. It provides a fundamental knowledge and understanding of bookkeeping and accounting concepts, processes, methods, procedures, and controls bookkeepers should comprehend to perform bookkeeping.
Payroll Fundamentals
This course explains payroll. It addresses the latest payroll laws and up-to-the-minute updates. The course focuses on application rather than theory. Examples and real business applications enhance the course and demonstrate the relevance of what you are learning. You learn how to calculate payroll, pay payroll taxes, and prepare payroll tax reports.
QuickBooks Online Fundamentals
This course introduces you to QuickBooks Online; Intuit's Internet or cloud-based bookkeeping and accounting program. You learn how to use the most important features in the Online version of QuickBooks.
Certified Public Bookkeeper (CPB) Steps
- Complete the Accounting Fundamentals, Payroll Fundamentals, and QuickBooks Online Fundamentals courses or equivalent.
- Pass the Bookkeeping, Payroll, and QuickBooks Online exams.
- Verify one-year of bookkeeping experience
- Agree to abide by the CPB Professional Code of Conduct
- Complete the Certified Public Bookkeeper Application for Licensure
Continuing Professional Education
Obtain 24 hours of CPE each year beginning the year after you obtain your license.

- Complete Annual CPE Reporting Certification Form (included in the Application for License Renewal)
